The Texans are set to take on the New England Patriots this Sunday at Gillette stadium after a embarrasing 42-14 blowout that they suffered in Week 14 on Monday Night Football. To make matters worse the Texans are getting little to no respect from writers around the league especially Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy. Here’s a portion of what Shaughnessy wrote:
“The 2012-13 New England Patriots just became the first team in NFL history to get back-to-back byes before advancing to the conference championship game.
“Could this get any easier?
I mean, seriously? The planets are aligned and the tomato cans are in place. The fraudulent Houston Texans are the only team standing between the New England Patriots and a trip to the AFC Championship game. All the Patriots have to do is beat the terrible Texans. One week from Sunday. At Gillette Stadium.
Pass Go and collect $200. The Patriots are in the AFC title game.” (credit, Boston Globe)
This column written by Shaughnessy fuels an unneccesary fire for the Texans who are looking to go deep into the playoffs this season for the first time in Franchise History. I admit as a Texans fan nothing would make me happier to see the Texans roll into Gillette Stadium on Sunday and beat down the Patriots, but as a realist i will come to grips that it might be a close game. This week Texans will be more focused than ever before, considering the last time they were about to suit up against the Patriots the focus seemed to be more on their "cool lettermans" than the task at hand. You can bet that Sunday's game will not be a copy of that Week 14 matchup as the Texans have more pride than that and after Shaughnessy's comments the focus will be maximized by 100. Texans RB Arian Foster even changed his avatar on Twitter to the part of the column where Shaugnessy trashes the Texans even more. Needless to say Texans @ Patriots will be a great game this weekend.
